What Are Business Days?
Business days (also called working days or weekdays) are Monday through Friday, excluding weekends (Saturday and Sunday). They are the standard unit for commercial, legal, and administrative timelines.
When a contract says "delivery within 5 business days" starting Monday, it means delivery by the following Monday (skipping the weekend). This calculator counts weekdays only — public holidays are not included by default.
Business Days in Common Scenarios
Shipping: Standard US ground shipping is 5–7 business days. ACH transfers: 1–3 business days. Check clearing: 2–5 business days. Legal notices: Often required 10–30 business days. Employee notice periods: Usually 10–15 business days (2–3 weeks).
Always add extra days for holidays if your calculation spans a major holiday period.
How to Calculate Business Days Manually
For small ranges, count weeks first: each complete week = 5 business days. Then add remaining weekdays. For example, from Monday Aug 4 to Friday Aug 22 is 2 full weeks (10 days) plus Mon–Fri of a third week (5 days) = 15 business days.
For faster counting, use the formula: Business days = (Total days) - (Number of weekend days) = (End - Start + 1) - 2 × complete weeks - partial weekend days.

If I start on Friday, when do 5 business days end?
Starting Friday (day 1): Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday = 5 business days, ending on Thursday of the following week.
How many business days are in a month?
A typical month has 20–23 business days. Months with 31 days and starting on Monday can have up to 23. February with 28 days starting on Monday has 20 business days.
